Sender's Art Collecting Borrows Hedge-Fund Tactics (Update1

March 12 (Bloomberg) -- Adam Sender's hedge fund has had a rough ride. Not so his art collection.

Sender said he revamped his Exis Capital Management Inc. last year, returning some investors' money after losses in 2004 and 2006. Meanwhile, the value of his art, with works by Richard Prince, Mike Kelley and Andreas Gursky, has continued to rise, quadrupling in 10 years.

``Who makes that kind of money in the stock market?'' said Sender, 38, as he swiveled round the 21 screens at his desk in New York. ``In the hedge-fund business these days, you're having a great year if you make 20 percent.''

Art is now his biggest single asset -- 800 works that Sender values at more than $100 million. He said he recouped most of the $25 million he spent in the past 10 years on art with the sale of about 40 pieces.

Hear All Sides

THE NHS I WAS appalled to read that cancer patients cannot obtain freely the drug Sutent on the National Health Service (Echo, Mar 6) because of financial difficulties. It seems very evident to me that trying to save money is more important than trying to help to save human lives.Since the Government introduced hospital Primary Care Trusts and the National Institute of Clinical Excellence, the NHS has been turned upside down. The NHS should be run by qualified medical experts as far as possible.I am in my early 70s and can prove what a properly run NHS is and means to me personally. I have been in NHS hospitals about 12 times for various operations and medical treatments during the last 30 years.Having fully recovered because of successful all-round medical treatment and wonderful nursing care, I am still going strong. The Government should listen to the medical experts and not to itself. Please bring back the old days when things ran much more smoothly in the National Health Service.Roland Bramham, Richmond.WELFARE REFORM DESPITE the fanfare, the latest governmental Welfare Reform will not require any person receiving welfare to actually take a job that is offered, nor is there any threat of a reduction in benefits against any time period.
